About two weeks before the official registration of the teams for the fifth World Tenniquoits Championships in Pretoria, it is certain that the German delegation including a supporter group will fly into South Africa in record numbers. Only Tatjana Schutte (RTG Weidenau) from the team originally nominated for the home World Championships will miss the postponed world title matches for private reasons. National coach Timo Hufnagel has nominated Kaja Stöhrer (TV Kieselbronn) instead. With 8 team world champions and 8 rookies, Team Germany will tackle the project of defending the title. Klaus Riehm (TSV Neubiberg), Silke von Aschwege (ESG Karlsruhe) and a handball physiotherapist from Pforzheim will join the coaching staff. A small team of 11 adult junior players (5 male and 6 female players) has been designated for the additional competitions for U23 teams organized by host South Africa. Among them are Elisa Kolonka (TV Kieselbronn) and Alexander Wiß (TV Rübenach), who are designated as substitutes for the national team. The 30-member German delegation plans to arrive three days before the competitions start to adjust to the altitude of over 1,300 meters. More than 20 family members, club members and ringtennis fans plan to accompany and support the team!

What is Ringtennis?

Ringtennis is a backstroke game played in singles or doubles on a badminton-like field with a sponge rubber ring. The ring is caught and thrown with the same hand. The idea of the game is simple: to throw the ring over the net into the opponent's field in such a way that the opponent cannot, or can catch it only with difficulty, to throw it back. Ringtennis is very suitable both in competition and as a recreational game.
